O let the rain beat down my face
And then the moon just cool me off
I am a traveler upon space face
I’m well prepared and I’ll not fuss
On air I’ll ride with witchery broom
I’ll cleanse our breathe from all this gloom
The lies with which their deed is spurn
All hell and nature places bet
Just let this pain beat down on me
And course down through my rigidity
So I may feel this new found hope
And freedom that will come at last
I’ll tell my children how it was
And grand ones after them with time
I’ll tell the ones who care to know
How long we waited to be freed
How mangy all our scarlet were
And scary all our nights had been
The dark that hid our naked lives
The crimes we never committed
The trails we faced as guilty ones
The tears we cried to summon God
Those times we waited lonely years
While others could not bear it on
O let this freedom soak me deep
For within me I feel such peace
That we had longed for to be got
But then at last was solely bought
I’m really old with years behind
But inside me, my days are fresh
It comes with bloom of childhood days
That I now live with grandchildren
------- Author's Notes -------
When freedom comes eventually, you can never cleanse your memory from the toils and turmoils of the realities of raw pain. |
