Family Gathering

With Ma and Pa and Auntie Nell
we arrive to hear the ringing bell.
I hold the hand of my sister June
as biscuits and chicken are served by noon.
People are waiting to clap and cheer
so I ask of you my mother dear
if our picnic is over why do we stay
to watch this man hang today?
