Redneck Thanksgiving Prayer
7 June, 2010
Author: Mark Spencer
Lord, we have gathered together
To thank you for this meal.
Since I’ve been out of work these months,
This don’t hardly seem real.
We wuz prepared to go hungry,
When my boy Caleb here,
Came runnin’ up a’hollerin
“That car just hit a deer!”
Luckily I’d siphoned some gas,
Out of my neighbor’s truck.
So I had enough to drive down
And collect that squashed buck.
We thank you Lord, for squashing him,
We’re beholdin’ to you!
I couldn’t take another year,
Of Mama’s rodent stew!
And thanks for the vegetables,
We stole from farmer Dorn.
Thanksgiving feasts are always best,
With venison and corn.
And we won’t have to wash this down,
With our Thanksgiving grog,
The way we did some time ago,
The year we ate the dog.
So Lord, we’ll just leave it at thanks,
And quickly say Amen.
‘Cause mama is starting to drool,
Let the eating BEGIN!
