I'm Sorry

I'm sorry...
Two small words that many people say all the time
But few truly know what they mean
The words are said because
People think that is what they are supposed to say

But, have you ever stopped to think about
Why it is you are saying the words?
Are you saying them to help heal the wounds you have caused another,
Or to help heal the wounds you have caused in yourself?

When we apologize, we do so
Usually because we think it is expected of us
We know we have done wrong to someone
And it is "normal" to apologize for that hurt

However, to truly understand the apology
And have it be heartfelt and meaningful,
Be sure to stop and think about
Why you are apologizing,
And not just say the words

Put yourself in the injured persons place
And understand why what you did
Caused them hurt or anguish,
Not just apologize to make yourself feel better

Elton John sang:
"Sorry seems to be the hardest words"
And they should be
But, for too many people,
They are too easy to say

So, the next time you cause hurt to someone,
Especially someone special to you,
Be sure to say you're sorry...

But be sure to know why it is you are sorry
And not just because you think
You are expected to say the words

That's just like saying

I love you. When we say those words, we've got to show that we love that person. It's all about sincerity.
