Help

Help...a very simple word
Yet so complex in its meaning
That it almost defies definition
Help is all around us
Always available
Always there for the asking
Yet we find it so hard to reach out and ask for it when needed
We are embarrassed that we need it
And afraid people will think less of us for asking
But, if we look around,
Look at the people in our lives,
We will see that we are all in need of help from time to time
We are all living lives that are imperfect
And we cling to those we love for the support
And help that they provide
Most times that help is there, without asking and without fanfare
It is there in the smile you get,
In the phone call, the e-mail, the text
Or the multitude other ways we connect with people these days
Most times we do not even realize that the help is being offered or provided
It is just there when we need it
From the friends or family we normally take for granted
That is the great thing about help...
We can get it, and usually do, without having to ask
Never be afraid to ask for the help you need
The people in your life are there for a reason
They are there because they care about you
And not just when times are good
They care because they know things will not always be good
And they know those are the times they can help
Know that the help you need is provided without any sense of
"You owe me one"
The people in your life that want to help, truly want to help
And do so without expectation of reciprocation
The thing about help is this...
It may be you asking today,
But tomorrow you are the one providing the help
And, at that time, you realize that asking for help
Is in itself a true act of friendship
