We all have expectations in our lives
We expect that we will always have what we want
Be able to do what we want
And get everything we want in our lives

But, as we grow up, we realize that that is not always the case
We realize that things are not just handed to us
Because we expect to have them

We also realize that things are expected of us by others...
We are expected to show up when we promise,
Do the things required of us at work
And fulfill our familial obligations

But, what do you do when you feel you can't live up to those expectations?
Is it worse that you disappoint others or yourself?
When you know so much is expected of you,
How do you deal with the feelings of failure
You get when you can't live up to those expectations?

The answer to that is complex
For some, it is easier to say, "Oh well, I guess I'll just have to live with that"
For others it becomes more difficult
For others, they feel the need to work harder
And try to meet everyone's expectations

It is not always easy to live up to what people think you should be
It is not easy to meet others expectations of you
All you can do is live up to the expectations you have of yourself
And hope that along the way others find that enough

When you put too much pressure on yourself to live up to others expectations of you,
You find there is no way you can ever succeed
You find that the bar is always moving
As soon as you meet one expectation, another is set
And, at some point, the bar is set too high
And you feel as if there is no way for you to meet it

Live your life and set goals for yourself
Goals that are high enough that you have to push yourself to get there,
But not so high as to set yourself up for failure

If these expectations of yourself are not enough for others, so be it
That is something that they will have to deal with
And be happy with the person that you have become
If they can't, be happy with yourself that you have met the expectations
You have set in your own life and know you are a success
