Sickness
3 July, 2010
Author: C. Scott
It's a hard thing to be sick
You want so much to try to put on a happy face for the world
To try to hide how you are feeling
Sometimes you get more worried about making other people comfortable
Than you are with making yourself comfortable
The people in your life that care, that truly care,
Are there for you, no matter what you need
However, at times, that "being there" can feel like a burden
They want so much to help that they sometimes forget
That sometimes there's nothing they can do to help
When you are sick,
You can get caught up in the trap of worrying how you are being perceived
That is not something that you can worry about
All you can do is try your best to stay positive
And not allow your illness to affect those around you
We get so concerned that others are comfortable around us
That we try to make them feel better by not always admitting how bad we feel
Not only is that a disservice to them,
It also hurts us in the long run
It is not only acceptable, but your right
To let people know when you are not at your best
The people that really care about you will understand
And those people that don't understand aren't the people you need
A positive attitude can carry you far when you are sick,
But don't be afraid of the bad days
Not everyone can be positive every day
Not every day can be a "good" day
Accept the bad days,
Accept that you won't feel like talking every day,
Accept that some days you're not going to be at your best
But, don't allow one bad day to become two and then three
Take the bad days when they are there for just that...a bad day
Tomorrow is always another day,
And just because today was bad,
Doesn't mean tomorrow has to be also
Live your life from day to day,
Don't anticipate a bad day tomorrow because you had one today
The bad days will end soon enough
And leave you with a new appreciation for the good days
