Nineteen-seven Street
18 July, 2010
Author: Victoria Umanah (Avikaie)
He was walking her home
On nineteen- seven street
On a dark summer watch
And time was just so wee
The owls were watching
Their eyes so bulgy
Their claws clang as drops
Of rains with angry pelts
There was an eerie gloom
That sucked the air from breathe
And left the leaves to wilt
The atmosphere was hot
And hairs began to rise
As shadows crept around
Through all the tall white walls
That showed their witchery claws
A fear had taken them
And embraced them to void
The derision had formed
It took them unannounced
And so they formed themselves
A mighty deathly beast
It hovered over them
Just daring them to run
All forces were alert
Reveling in their feast
But these two held so tight
Gazed in each other’s eyes
Their faith began to sour
And light began to shine
Their eyes began to melt
With love they had just found
The wild shapes descended
And melted to the ground
Their cries were shrilly sounds
As with that of a child
They closed their eyes and smiled
Seeing nothing but love
Their lips were intertwined
Their tears had become one
The street lighted anew
Then normalcy returned
And love had just been born
On nineteen- seven street
