New Year's Eve
1 January, 2002
Author: Dorothy C. Fox
Ah, New Year's Eves of my long ago
past...dressing in glitter and happiness
preparing for a night of laughter and
splendor, eagerly awaiting my escort to
appear. Would he too be dressed in a
tuxedo to go along with my splendid dreams?
Oh, but no, he is in the Military
and will be in his dress blues of course,
the limosine will bring him to my cottage
door as I eagerly dance around the
room, twirling to the music of Benny
Goodman awaiting the ringing of the door bell.
My forever love cannot come. He is too
sick and never again shall we be able to
dance to those melodies
but my dream never fails me.
Memories are vivid of
those days long gone by and all I can do
is give a sigh, oh my, did we really dance
at the ball? Or, was it just a dream after all?
Ah, but my dreams of my long ago New Year's Eve never fail me.
Precious memories to cherish and love.
And I can thank God from Heaven above
for He is that God of Love.
