Protecting The Heart
9 December, 2003
Author: Dragonsinger
Living in the streets you gotta be street-smart.
It's kinda like that, protecting your heart.
Watch your back, check over your shoulder,
Stay aloof 'round here. It ain't gettin' much colder.
You can't be too careful. I'ts a world of games.
Keep yourself safe to keep yourself sane.
Gotta keep quiet, gotta stay low;
(sometimes silence is the way to go.
People pass you over when you don't say any words;
Sometimes that's better, to avoid the little hurts.)
It's really no one's fault, they're only human after all;
They don't know what they're doing when the make your feelings fall.
'Course, there's a couple good ones out there who never press too much.
They listen to your feelings; spend time with you and such.
They know exactly what it's like beneath life's grime and dust...
They're the ones who you can slowly, slowly start to trust.
