Respect

Yes sir
No sir
Yes ma’am
No ma’am
Yes and no is fine to some
But yeah, huh and naw
Is disrespectful
Especially to the elderly
To be unmannerly is inexcusability
Respect was what
I was brought on
If I didn’t give it
I knew the repercussion
Negotiations didn’t occur
Very seldom
Was there a discussion
Most of the time
The rod was used and not spared
I had to pay a sore fine
To earn a soft behind
But the lessons learned
Hard though they were
Made me value respect
Because I’d want the same
If I became
A wife and a mother
Kids got to know
Mom ain’t their peer
Mom ain’t their friend
Mom's in charge
To love is to discipline
I came up on law-laying
So my talk and my walk
Must imply
That I’m not playing
