Amidst The Silence...

Author: Pondering Red
people - nameless -
sad - happy -
students sheltered
in the entrance of the local
drop in - drop out shopping plaza,
a mist of pot lingering -
surrounding their clothing - their brains -
they chat and wonder if someone will say anything -
people go in and out and
traffic lights
stay on red forever
i wait and wait
and curse in silence
and mutter -
so frustrating -
when cars and waves of exhaust rule -
i leave the downtown
walking on boring brown sidewalks -
patches of snow melting
grey
tinged edges - rather ugly
rich houses -
i walk on by -
nothing interesting -
dull -
grey
i enter the park
no one around
quieter
i stop.
i hear the distant city sounds.
the park sounds dominate -
crows flying around
landing on trees.
i hear the snow
the trees
the silence
satisfaction -
crisp air
on my face
my body feels tired.
i let go.
feel a release -
a solitary meditative moment-
happy to be in this space,
away from the
bothers and quickness and anonymity
sky turns a bit blue
some sunshine -
winds of coolness and freshness
surround me -
take me further away.
i stand for a long while
smile
i am happy
very happy
and savour the peace.
amidst the noise i find tranquility
yet shortly after
at a checkout counter
express aisle,
an older lady
stern and stoic
with crashing words
to me
disturbs my frame of mind,
rattles and
infuriates me
yet
such is the way it is
and
i remain still -
