Wanna Be An Actress
But I'm...
Not as thin as paper
Not as pretty as a picture
But I want the leading role
Instead, I've got the role of a troll
I'm a villain, not the protagonist
The cameras don't focus on the antagonist
I wanna be in the limelight
I wanna a piece of the spotlight
Wanna be the star of the show
Not the role of an extra
Nor the supporting role
Playing these parts for the umpteenth
Is above and beyond old
May not be the size of a dime
But I know the lines
I know theater and the big screen
Give me a chance
It's unfair and mean
Can't even be on the cover of the magazine
Don't care if the viewers revile me
I signed the contract to act
Didn't come this far to be shoved in the back
Tossed at the bottom of the credits
Want folks to remember my name
Before they forget it
Why are we so shallow like the sea?
So shallow you can't even see the potential in me
And before you know it, you'll end up
Letting good talent flee
Because I didn't portray the image of a celebrity
You looking for a good actor or
Someone with appeal?
Somebody with a nice physique or the real deal?
Then can we forget the face for once
And listen to the delivery
Instead of robbing me of the career
I dreamt of til it finally got here
And now that it's here
Tell me why these words will
Fall on deaf ears?
Because looks come before character
That hard truth is crystal clear
