This Seed

Even as a seed,
Before you grew and grew
Of course you didn’t know
The plan God had for you
Didn’t know you’d become a doctor
Or a musician or a painter
Or the person you became
You’d no idea what your destiny would be
The generations to your name

Never thought this tiny seed
Would bloom into a baby
Would bloom into a kid
Would bloom into an adolescent
Would bloom into an adult
Would graduate and lead
Would make decisions
Would succeed

This seed
Grew into a fetus in the womb
Coming out and growing full bloom
From a bud to a flower
Look at you now
What you are before you’re born
What you will be before your arrival
Where, as you age,
You’ll learn all about survival
Who knew this seed would grow into
A person with a big heart
A selfless person who devotes
His or her time
Wouldn't mind giving the shirt off their back
Wouldn’t mind
Giving the downtrodden
A little sunshine

This seed isn’t even thought of
Yet the destiny is so rich
Believing like a prophet or a high priest
That such a destiny is possible
That he or she
Can have such an abundant increase

This seed will have struggles
Will get mad
Will love
Will be challenged
But will overcome
Especially if he or she knows
Where his or her
Help comes from

This seed
Doesn’t even know
That he or she
Will have a seed
That will grow
So the cycle can continue
As well as the legacy
Growing a garden of good
A field of love and integrity
