Can't Win 'em All

Author: Meridian Zuriel
I dance
I sashay
I move this way
Want to be number one
Want to win
One, two, one, two
And so I begin
Arms over my head
Did this number a thousand times
Acting to a piece
Without speaking the lines
It shows in my face
Gotta feel the part I play
Til it becomes natural
On performance day
Judges looking at me
Heart’s racing with excitement
- Nervous.
Want to be chosen
So I dance and I dance
And I prance and I prance
And they glance
Writing on a piece of paper
Before me
- Some smile
But I don’t know
How they feel
What they think
All they do is just
Smile and blink
My heart will sink
If I don’t take home
The trophy
A tower of gold
To feel it in my hands
Will make me smile
Realizing the sleepless nights
Of dancing were worthwhile
But..
Promised that I’d be a good sport
If I didn’t win
Won more than three trophies already
Will just do my best
And be happy for the person
That wins the contest
Can’t win ‘em all
Disappointment will subside
So I’ll be okay
Practice makes perfect
Thus, I sway and I sway
Get into character
Practicing the parts I’m to play
Eyes big with dreams
Replaced by stars
Sometimes
My dreams seem so far
Can’t wait
To graduate from where I am today
To something bigger
Something bigger like Broadway
