Sexism
19 October, 2011
Author: Meridian Zuriel
So I’m a woman, and?
Believe I’ll take a stand
Do what you do
See me do it too
It’s not even about
Being better than you
Who cares?
You see my face
I’m still in the race
Because I’ve got
Dreams to chase
To catch
In it to win it
For the new horizons
That hatch
At the bottom like I’m on a food chain
Climbing up rope just to gain
Steady hanging up there, trying to maintain
Only thing you can think about
Is superiority and gender
Disregard for the tender
We’re supposed to be a team
Boosting each other’s self-esteem
But your only objective
Is crushing another’s dream
Because you can’t stand
A woman over a man
This is the workforce,
This ain’t the household
Where’s the love?
Let it unfold
Left in the wind
Where do I begin?
Looking for that backbone
Don’t mind being your support
But exclude tit for tat
Besides,
We’re too grown for that
This isn’t about me
But about inequality
You hate me
Deception cuts deep
Camaraderie show your face
Helping me because you have to?
Is that heart really pure and true?
Can I trust you?
Time flies and flies
And sexism never dies
All the isms are still alive
Roots need to be suffix-deprived
Mad at the stubborn
Mat at the things I can’t turnaround
But happy that I’m the only one
That can prohibit
My feet from walking
That can prohibit
My mouth from talking
That can prohibit
My plans into action
That can prohibit
Me from arriving at
Attraction and satisfaction
Either unconcern and/or reproach
Constantly stepped on like a roach
And still I rise
With more fire in my eyes
Than the hottest flame
Sexism ain’t cool
And guess what?
It won’t rule
Don’t buy that ego
Don’t give a darn about that chip
Knock it off
Let it slip
Treating me like nothing
Like I don’t deserve respect
Like I don’t matter
Mad cuz of rank and position
Are we kids or are we adults?
Not my fault
If I wanted something higher
Better
And actually achieved it
Truth is the truth
Yet you refuse to receive it
I’m not sorry that I’m not
The chump you’d thought I’d be
Not the kind of person
To tolerate immaturity
Don’t hold your breath
For me to aim to stay in one spot
That just ain’t me
I guess you forgot
