Continue The Journey (as A Nation)
1 January, 2012
Author: Meridian Zuriel
They fought
They ran
They walked
They marched
Gave speeches
Liberty was and is the aim
Many bold and brave
Paved the way
Beaten
Soiled from sweat
Working to get
What we may never get
It is what it is
The ism is still alive and well
But this mind’s
Determined to prevail
Got personal challenges
And people challenges
But I’m gonna
Fight
Run
Walk
Speak
Thank you Jesus
Thank you brother
Thank you sister
For answering prayer
For taking a stand
For this black woman
Black is beautiful
Black is prized
Black has suffered
Through many eyes
Black is struggling
And will struggle
In the years to come
Doesn’t mean
We can’t reach
We can’t cross
We can’t survive
Survive
Black man
Survive
Black woman
Survive
Black girl
Survive
Black boy
Swim
Crawl
Run
Do what you must
To succeed
Many life battles
Will make you bleed
It’s tough
Ongoing
Unpleasant
Sweat will drop
From the brow
But by all means
Make it anyhow
The road, long
The road, treacherous
The rope, hard
The rope, long
The reality, hard-hitting
‘s no fun sitting
Get up
Catch a ride
Hop on that train
Do what you must
Use that brain
We must learn to work together
Imagine the strength we’d have
As a unit
If we could stop fighting amongst ourselves
Then we could get somewhere quicker
Our blessings wouldn’t be hindered
Where’s our unification as a nation?
We can't get a position and
Let it get to our heads
If our brother or sister is down in out
Don't turn ‘em away
Help 'em out instead
Don’t be black and selfish
Be black and love your brother
The sister too
So that the generations coming up
Will learn from me and you
That it takes world brother and sisterhood,
And not just prayer
To set sail toward our endeavors
And make it there
