The Little Grey Squirrel
18 December, 2012
author: Rebecca Ditch-Hammack (aka Dreamer)
I sat in the hot tub gazing at the tree
When I took a notice that there was something watching me
Sitting so contently with an occasional flip of his tail
Sat a little grey squirrel staring, quietly pondering me
We sat there silently watching, each other from afar
I wonder what he was thinking, was he bothered by the passing car
We sat there for a while just looking at each other
Till something seemed to trip his inner safety radar
He moved into a position blending with the bark of the tree
I wondered why the movement, wondered what he seen
Then I spied it over head, as a hawk flew high above
The squirrel didn't move a muscle, nor attempt to flee
After a few moments past and the hawk was out of sight
He relaxed once more, and climbed to a better height
He looked in all directions, than looked back at me
And for another moment he just sat there all upright
As I was there watching him another squirrel I spied
I think he took the same notice as he jumped to a branch up high
Around a thicker branch they quickly chased each other
Then dramatically jumping to a much smaller one near by
I watched as the other squirrel seemed to chase him in play
On to tiny branches so thin they would sway
I knew it was goodbye as he looked once more at me
Just as he jumped onto the wire of the squirrel super highway
