Deep Inside My Mind by BigChevy

Its so dark, I can hardly see.
as deep as my mind, is as deep as the sea.
endlessly i wonder, i still cant see.
faint echos of screams, i hear in the deep.
which way should i go?
I dont really know.
but i must keep going, no matter where i go.
the deeper i go, the harder to breathe.
I cannot lie, that I'm terrified.
of what I might find, in the cavernous deep.
I'm all alone, running through my mind.
these deep wounds of mine, go back a long time.
Swallowed it whole, buried beneath my soul.
so many moons have gone by, yet it still torments my mind.
tormented by my past, never came to pass.
in the darkest corners of my mind,
it took advantage of the time, and waited for the right time.
to rule over my mind....
consumed by my past, I ain't gonna last

Your piece reads to me as if the narrator is in a dark tunnel, and that either signifies that s/he's a bit down on his/her luck in life or if they're literally in a dark tunnel with no means of escape. Parts of your poem are written simply - like saying they're terrified - which I'm glad for, because trying to complicate things usually doesn't make much of a difference. But parts of your poem are written with a level of complexity and metaphor, which I especially like... That's probably why your last four lines are my favorite part. Well done!
