Already Or Only 18?
1 January, 1970
Author: Elizabetta
big blue eyes,
glassy, sparkling, innnocent
ready to soak up the world
on the brink of an embrace
ready to dance with the world
taut lips, stretched across
a face too large
creases formed in baby soft skin
teeth clenched tightly
shutting out what trys to get in
quick laugh
glides out frequently
echoes loud throughout
anthem of an internal joy
explosion of an undiscerning love
strained voice,
words carefully crafted
neat little sentences
rearranged so often
their consequnces so well thought out
that all meaning is lost
free soul
so unassuming and pure
ready to reach out,
seeing all good
ready to conquer the world
battered heart,
been broken before
perfers a shelter
to hid from all pain
afraid to really live
a girl torn,
the spirit of a child,
but the mind of a woman,
hurt too many times
am I already 18?
still clinging to the
good old days and my good friends
or am I just 18?
above all the petiness
that is highschool
do I bask in the present
and long for the past,
or endure the present and
hope, that despite life
so far the future will
be better
do I smile and laugh
or smirk at those
fools who smile and laugh
should I be already 18, or only
why can I not be simply 18
maybe this paradox is
what 18 is all about
