Laughing With You
15 January, 2014

I would rather hear your laugh
Than any Tchaikovsky concerto
Or a symphony of Mozart
Or have sweet nothings whispered in my ear
For though the musical inclinations of masters holds me in awe
Yet I would call them accursed and find them absent of worth
And the hours of a master piece be little more than wasted time
Should they, leave me bereft of even a moment, of your laughter
And sweet nothings are but mere flattery by comparison
Partly because they are meant to flatter and partly because
I know no words of poet or lover which reach me so completely
Even to the darkest recesses of my heart, nor move me so greatly
As your laugh, which rings clearly and serenely and is to my soul
As a cool breeze in mid summer, refreshing and familiar
And so, I cannot help but to smile

I would rather cry with you
Knowing that you were beside me
Without pretense or judgment, simply there should I need you
And that when facing those things in life that would cause me to cry
Knowing that when my eyes finally dried and I was able to look up again
That you would be there smiling, and with that, finding myself in a wash
Of joy that is found by being near you, in simply sharing a moment with you
In fact, if choosing, I would rather cry with you, than laugh with all else around me
Because most fluttering about me, never take the time to get to know me
Whereas you and I live in our own world, in this world and yet not part of it
Rather, in that place where through looking into your eyes we speak together
And share more secrets and jokes with a grin or a nod
Than all those busy bodies, scurrying about us, longing for gossip or rumors
I enjoy so many things that are shared between we two
But what I love most of all, is laughing with you.

Yes, he's back!

Hey Ing! When I read this, it seemed like a gush of emotions came pouring out as you wrote it. There's nothing like sharing joy and pain with a confidant - someone you know you can trust.

Btw, I like classical music too. It's so peaceful to me. This poem is deep. Miss your short stories too.
