Salvation's Assumption
27 April, 2014

I've encountered an assumption
A universal presumption
An auspicious complication
In regards to man's salvation

Some think there is no judgment day
For those who choose the Christian way
They say no judgment comes to one
Who follows God's most holy Son

But is this how the bible reads
That no one has to face their deeds
As long as they say God exists
All of their sins will be dismissed

Within their minds belief is bent
They think it's just acknowledgement
They have their cake and eat it too
By doing what they want to do

For after all their souls are saved
The hypocrites and the depraved
Will rise to grace out of the mud
Washed clean by sacrificial blood

And they will be rescued from grief
Because of their profound belief
Acknowledging that God is real
Is all they need for their appeal

But I think something is amiss
Belief has more substance than this
It goes much deeper than the shoal
It asks for more to save your soul

Even Satan believes God lives
He knows the blood of Christ forgives
But God can see what's in your heart
Every parcel and every part

He see's the truth that lay within
He knows what fuels the souls of men
He paved two roads for us to choose
On one we win on one we lose

He made the winning road a trial
A place of personal denial
He made the losing road a treat
With comforts fine and pleasures sweet

And in the midst of human choice
He gave the world a louder voice
And as this tapestry unfurled
He watched His children choose the world

And so he sent His holy Son
To live a life embraced by none
For sin corrupted every soul
The Cross became it's final toll

His sacrifice on our behalf
Made angels cry and sinners laugh
For then the roads became as one
To any who accept the Son

It is convenient don't you think
To live your life out on the brink
Because you gave Jesus a wave
You won’t become the devil's slave

Belief in Christ takes more than this
We're staring into the abyss
His principals must be applied
To every single step and stride

If they are not you don't believe
You only practice to deceive
The baby born beneath that star
Was more than just an avatar

He was more than a sacrifice
More than the one to pay YOUR price
He was the gospel He declared
He was the principals He shared

He is the life the truth the way
He is the Word that wins the day
He is a light from God above
A beacon of faith hope and love

And if you make the worldly choice
Then you don't hear His holy voice
He's only a means to an end
A stepping stone for those who've sinned.

Our deeds reveal the truth within
Pursuits of grace pursuits of sin
And principals we don't apply
Are principals our hearts deny

So if we say that we embrace
The ways of Christ the ways of grace
But don't apply them to our lives
It's not for them that our heart strives

Our words are useless without deeds
Like gardeners that plant no seeds
Don't let this warning come too late
Don't leave it to the hands of fate

They'll lead us down the losing road
Into a desolate abode
Of spiritual consumption
A realm kept fat by our assumptions
