Author: Shiloh
I knew you were sick,
and I knew that you were going,
but I really wasn't ready for it to happen.
You had been with me for over fourteen years,
ever my companion, ever my shadow,
ever my comfort and my conscience.
You gave to me your love, freely, and with nothing asked in return,
and you shared with me your voice, your purring, and the beauty
that was in you,
and you gave to me so much happiness.....
I pray that you were as happy with me.
All I could give you in return was my love,
my touch as I would pet you, stroke your beautiful fur,
scratch around your ears and the back of your head and neck,
and under your chin, and along the sides of your head...
and the base of your tail - you loved the attention.
You would crawl up into my arms to be held,
and you would fall asleep on my shoulder.
You trusted me. That, in itself, was a great gift to me.
You are gone now, and I still look for you, I still worry,
I still think I will see you as I move from room to room here.
In my mind, my memory, my heart, I do see you,
as you were, as you will ever be,
and I will still caress your fur,
still feel your paw as it would reach out,
and now I am starting to tear up a bit,
because that was always a special thing,
when you would reach out to me...
and I don't want to lose that particular memory...
almost as much as I did not want to lose you.
Wait for me, Sassy.
One day we will greet each other again,
and then we will cross Rainbow Bridge into Heaven together.
I love you, Sassy Girl,
and I will never stop loving you,
and I will never forget you.
