My Seed

Author: Marty Henry
Hi my name is Mr Tree
My seed was planted way back in 1903
I have grown to be big and strong
Listening to birds sing beautiful songs
Many animals have made a home in me
Giving warmth and love for their families
I give people shade that live down there
But I have noticed that some people seem lost and scared
I have heard them fight and call each other names
Why do they do this? It's such a shame
I hear a little girl crying as she shakes with fear
My limbs reach out to wipe away her tears
Hi little girl my name is Mr Tree
Why are you sad was someone being mean?
She said yes other kids call her bad names
Because I am black I'm not the same
Yes many people have different colors of skin
This is why we need to find what holds within
Now take me for example I'm just a big old tree
People get mad when I lose my leaves
Sometimes my limbs break and fall to the ground
This is when people want to cut me down
They seem to forget there's a home inside of me
This is why God only plants good seeds
Always remember to walk with a light
What holds within you will shine so bright
No one is perfect in this world we live
But we will always be sad if we don't forgive
So if you are alone needing a friend
I'll always be here with open limbs
Thank you Lord for planting my seed
There will always be a home inside of me
