How It Should Be
18 May, 2003
Author: Eric Miller
Why did I do this to myself,
I didn't think it'd happen this time.
Now I'm the one left alone,
Telling myself, "I'll be just fine."
Knowing it's not the truth,
And that this pain just won't go away.
None of this would have happened,
If only you would say:
"Yes I'll give my heart to you,
As you just did for me.
I'll stand right here beside you,
Forever, that's how it Should be."
But that's not how it went,
"Oh, that's sweet, I'm so flattered."
Is what came out of your mouth,
As my heart slowly shattered.
A million little pieces,
Scattered all over the floor.
I thought you might pick them up,
But that faded as you slammed the door.
Leaving me all alone,
As chills ran down my spine.
I thought that you were different,
I thought I had found the right one this time.
But I'll keep pushing on,
As the night turns into the day.
I'll keep holding on,
Until the day you say:
"Yes I'll give my heart to you,
As you just did for me.
I'll stand right here beside you,
Forever, that's how it will be."
