I Treasure That
6 April, 2017
Author: LAR
I offer only what I have...
my thoughts I offer, nay,-
my heart's blood I offer,-
my pledge to you, I offer,-
e'en though I know you may not take them now....
perhaps one day,
when I am gone,
you will take them,
accept them,
and place them in a little drawer,
where they will be safe,
where you may open and see,
from time to time,
the way it was for me,
when I could not have your love.
There will be a time,
likely sooner than I wish,
when I will go and you will stay,
to remember,
and to think about all the ways
that nothing worked,
or could work.
Perhaps you will be able to figure out
what the reasons were
for how it was.
I wonder still,
but one day I will stop wondering.
It really doesn't matter, anyway.
Knowing what and why
wouldn't change things.
No, changing has no chance now,
no chance later, either.
Mainly because you can't,
and I won't.
The only chance for change
will be eternal peace,
and that is scheduled for soon enough.
I think that it is best
just to remember what was,
and be glad for having had that.
That little bit of time
was a bit of heaven,
and a lot of smiles left over for now.
That's a perfect way of saying it –
you gave me a smile to carry in my heart,
and I treasure that.
I treasure it.
