I Cannot Promise
27 April, 2017
Author: Ing Twi Demalah
I cannot promise to save you from life’s storms
Or the blackness that life at times brings
I cannot promise to stop the loneliness when it comes
Or the fear and the nightmares
I cannot promise to keep you from the pain of this life
Or the weight this world lays upon you
But I want to be the warm embrace
that keeps the wind and rain away
I want to be the loving hand in the darkness
That helps you see the light again
I want to be the arms about you
That drives all the loneliness away
I want to be the voice that whispers “I‘m here and I love youâ€
That you may find sleep once more.
I want to be the soft caress who dries your tears
That healing salve in your life where you find solace
I want to be the shoulder you lean on, cry on
That your burdens lighten and the world make sense once more
I cannot promise that things will be perfect
But I can promise I will never leave your side
That if you let me, I will love you till the end of time
