High

Author: Meridian Zuriel
I'm flattered that you think I'm high
Cause I am
I am peculiar, strange
The only one dancing without music you hear
Cause it's in my ear
Happiness is lost in humanity
You'd be hard pressed to see
A smile
What is it? Bills? Job? Folks? Stress?
Shoot. As long as you're alive
You gon' owe somebody til the day you die
It costs to be in the womb
To be born, to live, to go under
Yet you wonder
What's wrong with me
I choose to be
In the percentile
That chooses to smile
To relax my face
Maintain a steady pace
Knowing none can compete with time
It'll always have first place
To work on my attitude, have fun
From tennis shoes to blades
Enjoying the shade
In this one woman parade
Life's too brief to let humanity
And circumstances that will always be
Ruin the rhythm and get the best of me
It's a necessity
To have fun as the world sleeps
Hoping for me, time will creep
While I venture out into the deep
Slipping and sliding
Marching and gliding
Making donuts as I go
Simply lovin the flow
Rockin in and out of the public eye
I'm unapologetically me, myself and I
As the world rushes on,
I owe it to myself to be
Free, unpopular,
Always staying true to me
Independent and into nonconformity
Don't have time for
Would be arguments and confrontations
Music shuts it all down
Pot stirrers and trouble makers
Get lost in the surround sound
Got to get high to function
And this is my fix
Since no man can predict
The goings of or outcome of a day
But as for this clay
It feels good to be on something
To mentally overdose and get away
Something that no merchant can sell
A high that does me well
An addiction you can't get locked up for
Does no harm to go back for more
On that note and pardon the pun
Am having fun but gotta run
Besides an addict's work is never done
Until the setting of the sun
In the interim however, I do endeavor
To never
Stop dancing whenever
Despite whoever
Didn't believe until I actually
Found my forever
A carefree wind blowin
Balancing time between ground and floor
Only God can stop the music
When I am no more
