Huckleberry

Another candle has gone out.
Soft breaths are no longer heard.
The questioning nose no longer cares,
and the eyes are now shadowed.

Whisper and Toby are his companions now,
and they will care for him
and watch over him....
They have taken over from us.

He is beyond us now,
waiting, with the others,
for the day when we walk the fields
together again.
