The Devil You Know

Author: Seizure
Welcome home, where you been? Lock the door, come on in
There's bruises on your body in your mind and on your skin
Yet you return all the time like a living pantomime
Hiding all your darkest secrets in the depths of your mind
No one ever notices, they do not realize
The anguish that you're feeling so they cannot empathize
No one could have known, that you really walk alone
The burden that you suffer is entirely your own
You know that you should leave - yet you give it all you've got
The concept of leaving never got a second thought
Like there's a stronger power that is forcing you to stay
Despite the life you're living getting harder every day
You haven't slept in days and you've lost your appetite
Yet it's all okay when you kiss your kid goodnight
You would suffer peril of a life that's worse than death
To keep your child safe until you draw your final breath
They can never know it hurts or they'll make it even worse
They like to watch you suffer, somehow this became your curse
There's a pressure in your chest and a tingle in your arm
You fear just what could happen if you don't raise the alarm
Still it's worse if you do, and you know it too
They'll take your greatest fears and use them to run you through
You know you love your child and it's with all of your heart
Yet every day that passes slowly breaks your soul apart
The pressure's getting tighter, your heart's about to quit
You tell the devil that you know but they don't give a sh*t
You clench your chest and fall, and then they start to laugh
As a child growing up, what led you on this path?
They hold your child back, to keep them from your side
The devil doesn't care about the words your child cried
They watched you pass away, they watched your spirit flow
Your child is led away by the devil that you know
