I'd Better Not Try.....

Damn....just figured out that I gotta be careful.
I mean about writing a book.
You know that I write free verse,
sometimes it rhymes,
but usually that's too hard for me...
Anyway, with my luck,
things would go like this:
I'd submit something to a publisher,
they would like it and send me an advance check....
and I would cash it...
and spend it.
And then I would go nuts, right?
Because, let's say that there's this big company
that just sent me a nice check
that I cashed
and I spent the nice money....
and eventually one day I would realize
that I had better find a real author
for some guidance...
and in looking, I finally find one
that advertised that they would help fledgling authors...
didn't what that meant,
but I did connect on two words - "help" and "authors."
So I call them up,
and find out that my buddy from high school
works there as an advisor,
and I get him on the phone and start talking with him,
and we talk about the good old days,
he's married to my old sweetheart,
and then we get around to my problem...
He wants to know what he can help me with,
so I tell him that since he knows about things
like commas and periods,
that maybe he can help me,
as I just had an advance check on my book,
I'd cashed it and spent it,
and I hadn't written a single word.....
He hung up on me.
