Hearts And Memories
31 July, 2021
Author: LAR
it is 4 in the afternoon, and I have been,
in the heart of my mind, for the last hour,
at any rate,
kissing you gently,
softly, tenderly, but still firmly,
as if to let you know
how important it is to me,
how important you are to me.
and though 2007, was forty years in the waiting,
and now it has (nearly) been another 14 or so years
in the waiting again..
and ne'er again shall our lips meet as long ago.
I still remember, as you remember,—
and the feeling of it all comes back
and it has the same impact as before...
but this time with a bit of knowledge,
a bit of a smile, a bit of a blush,
a bit of some tears,
and a bit of memory of how it was,
how it almost was,
and the warmth of those feelings as they wrap around,
putting hush to things sad or things missed,
or things never to be again... but allow me to correct that —
for they will always be again....
e'en if only in hearts not yet old enough to feel old,
but still young enough to feel young.
Hearts like ours.
