By The Grace Of God
2 November, 2023
Author: Mark Spencer
(Verse 1)
Daddy was a patriot,
Who wanted to do more.
A navy man at seventeen,
He went sailing off to war.
He nearly died at Normandy,
By the Lord’s grace he survived.
It took him months to walk again,
But he made it home alive!
(Verse 2)
He thought the war was over,
The one to end all wars!
How could he know what lay ahead,
At home, and on distant shores?
I’m glad he didn’t live to see,
Where his sacrifice has led.
To this assault on liberty,
And the peace for which he bled!
(Chorus)
By the grace of God
Freedom’s still alive!
Rich men want to end it,
And it may not survive!
The brave still stand for liberty,
Against tyranny’s facade.
They’ll fight until they win or lose,
By the grace of God!
(Verse 3)
How will our children ever know
What freedom really means?
If they grow up like subjects
To wealthy kings and queens?
And we will be the tipping point,
For the journey that remains.
Are we heading for Utopia,
Or a future bound by chains?
(Chorus)
By the grace of God
Freedom’s still alive!
Rich men want to end it,
And it may not survive!
The brave still stand for liberty,
Against tyranny’s facade.
They’ll fight until they win or lose,
By the grace of God!
(Instrumental Break)
(Bridge-Spoken)
When future generations
Read the marker on your grave,
Will it say you fought for freedom,
Or surrendered, and died a slave?
(Chorus)
By the grace of God
Freedom’s still alive!
Rich men want to end it,
And it may not survive!
The brave still stand for liberty,
Against tyranny’s façade!
They’ll fight until they win or lose,
By the grace of God!
(Chorus to fade)
By the grace of God
Freedom’s still alive!
Rich men want to end it,
And it may not survive!
The brave still stand for liberty,
Against tyranny’s facade.
They’ll fight until they win or lose,
By the grace of God!
