Protected And Loved
15 August, 2003
Author: Jessica G
I remember when you were just a baby;
so small, so clean.
You smelled like baby shampoo
and baby powder.
I would hold you for hours on end and didn't want to let you go.
You're so precious and fragile.
I felt that if I were to put you down you would brake.
You would fall asleep on my chest
to the sound of my heart beat.
When I would hold you, you could only stare at me and smile.
You never stopped crying for mom or dad;
but when they'd give you to me you'd gently begin to coo and fall asleep.
When you were just a little older, but still a child;
you would wait at the door
for me to come home from school.
Before I would walk in you had already been in my arms;
giving me a great big kiss and hug,
saying "I wove you Jess"
When ever something went wrong
you'd come to me;
to find the love and protection you needed.
You would never leave my side.
You would crawl out of you crib
and climb in to bed next to me.
You would imitate what I did
and think you were just like me.
You always sat with me,
When we watched t.v.
I would hold you
and you would fall asleep.
Now When I see you,
you'd jump in my arms with great joy
and ask "Did you miss me?"
I would say "Yes" and ask the same.
Then you would declare how much you loved me and I'd do the same.
I can only wish that you were by my side.
That I could give you your love
and protection that you need.
I can only wish to have you come and sit with me
and fall asleep to our rhythmic breathing.
Wish that you were next to me sound asleep in my bed.
Now that our lives have gone different ways for us,
we can only hold on to memories
and wish upon a star.
