Gangsta Crap
28 April, 2003
Author: Justus Isaiah Richardson
Why must there always be,
Some punk who writes profanity?
Is he an Eminem wannabe,
Throwin’ his gangsta crap at me?
Don't these troublemakers see,
That they're not writing poetry?
It's just a bunch of vulgarity,
Line after line of obscenity.
I'm sure most poets will agree,
That if ever their names we see.
On an album or a marquee,
We wouldn't listen if it were free.
They write nothing but debris,
Then give a warning sign for me,
Adult content they say with glee.
But let's talk about reality,
They're just kids in truth you see,
Barely into puberty.
Punks who thinks it's comedy,
To use so much profanity!
And if their parents hear you plea,
Could they stop this insanity?
Or would they call the authorities,
Say my parents are abusing me?
Is this how the world will be,
With punks who spew obscenity,
With no regard for humanity,
At war with our morality,
Chipping away at our sanity?
A generation like these wannabe's,
Throwin' their gangsta crap at me.

Seizure (68.19.81.10) -- Wednesday, September 10 2003, 05:17 am Shouldn't that be Gangsta Boo? And why are you bringing race into this... yes, all of us while people listen to country... I mean, what else would we listen to? Afterall, everyone knows the color of your skin determines what you like to listen to, how hard your life has been, etc. Shit, I listen to rap, as do a lot of other white people.. By the same token, there's also a lot of black people that listen to country... I also see how one sided you are by saying white people have it easy... you've never walked in my shoes and you've never seen the things I've seen. I can name just as many troubled white people as I can black, and hispanic, and indian... poverty, violence, and descrimination is no kinder to one than the other. You couldn't just post a message saying you didn't agree with Justus' vision here could you? No, you had to categorize a huge percentage of the population... Where in Justus' poem did he say anything about the blacks? Where did he say anything about the whites? He didn't... it has nothing to do with race there. The only racial content of the poem was created in your head. No where else. |

Justus Isaiah Richardson (67.127.184.222) -- Saturday, November 29 2003, 05:12 am Profanity’s purpose is for offending people and stirring up trouble. It is used out of anger to incite anger in others. If you have an argument with someone and you want to get a point across, it ain't gonna happen when you're calling him every name in the book! If you use it to make a political statement and you find the only ones listening are people already on your side, it’s because you offended the people you wanted to hear your message. At which point, anything you say is going to go in one ear and out the other, because they don’t like you. To them, you’re just a disrespectful little piece of garbage who deserves their angst, and nothing else. By the way, angst means anger. Just wanted to explain that for the illiterate among you. And of course, illiterate means uneducated or simply, stupid. Which is how profanity makes you sound. If you can’t argue your point intelligently, then you’re nothing but dandruff to be brushed off. Intelligent people run this world, while uneducated, trash talking, gutter mouthed illiterates run the next order at McDonalds. Which one are you gonna be? |
dOwN~wIt~dA~bRoWn (68.185.180.166) -- Monday, December 1 2003, 02:56 am everybody gotz they own style, me I listen to erything, mostly underground, rap, and hip-hop! I work at McDonalds, well peace. |

Beto AKA ELMO (12.247.148.110) -- Friday, December 5 2003, 04:28 am man u a str8 up trip u hatin cuz u cant flow like a real G or make sense like we do man u aint nothin cuz *(we gonna ride till we die ball till we fall )* u aint poetic u just a lil hoe being all dramatic lyrics that u dont understand are things we have to live u say thats crap well let me tell u somethin ur crap u might as well be a discrinate bastard |
Justus Isaiah Richardson (67.124.150.128) -- Friday, December 5 2003, 01:19 pm I did live it punk. I write about what I lived, but in an articulate way. I use words that describe what I experienced, that don't offend people in the process. And you know what? People actually listen. People other than the ones who are in the same boat as I was. In fact, those are the only people who don't listen! This doesn’t bother me, since most of them will be dead before they reach 30 anyway. They'll run around spitting their trash talk until they tick off the wrong people and then wind up getting capped. And as they feel their life fluids ooze out of their body, they wonder why someone would hate them enough to kill them. What you've endured in your life isn't crap, how you present it is what's crap. As long as you represent your story in such a repugnant and disrespectful way, it will be perceived in the same way. In other words, your story isn't crap, but the way it’s presented makes it crap. I doubt you have the capacity to understand my point so I will present something you’re a little more familiar with. I’ll have a Big Mack, fries and a coke. I’d like to super size that too. Late. |
Love Joi (207.232.152.154) -- Friday, December 5 2003, 04:31 pm I think that race don;t have anything to do with the rap industry at all. We all know that sometimes people misjudge you because of the type of music you listen to. To me I think that people can rap about their lifestyle and how it is to be in the streetz and how to live in the streetz. When you truly think about it , it teaches young people how to survive in the streetz. |
Justus Isaiah Richardson (67.124.150.128) -- Saturday, December 6 2003, 12:06 am And as long as that's as far as they want to get in life, it works. I could have stayed on the streets and by now I'd be in jail or dead. It's funny, I don't see country singers or rock stars or R&B artists getting capped. Wonder why that is? They get off the streets! The ones getting capped are the ones who never left. Yeah they surviving, right? They're teaching everyone how to survive the streets before they get capped. All that money, and they can't get away from the streets. Too bad. You should probably listen to something that will teach you how to get off of the streets too. In the meantime, break's over. There's a lady with a Big Mac attack waiting to place an order. |
Meridian (205.188.116.197) -- Wednesday, January 12 2005, 12:05 am Good poem Justus in expressing yourself! -Meri |
Ben F (81.100.175.39) -- Wednesday, January 12 2005, 01:05 pm I agree with some aspects of your "poem",yes there is alot of profianty(which in my opinion never has to be used),but not all "rappers" rhyme like this, kanye west is a huge example at the moment,he talks about life and whats going on in a inttelgent way. Rap has profainity, rock has profianty, folk songs have profainty. and to "gangster Boo", like seizure said, theres no reason to bring race into this, your only proving how small minded you are. |
Rubydragon (82.10.190.131) -- Thursday, January 13 2005, 01:40 am I am an MC, and I know for a fact that you say what ya feel, we all agree. but Dreamers is a place where we respect that. If you gonna take offence at anybodys writing and start disrespecting it and throwing all your feelings down just to insult someones writing then you have more than just an offence problem, and you need to shut up respect people for their feelings and outlook on life and understand that sometimes there are things that irritate us and if we deal with them by attacking someone else then we just like every other non-understanding moron out there and thats how problems arise, so back off and have a bit of decency and respect. |
Rubydragon (82.10.190.131) -- Thursday, January 13 2005, 01:42 am For peoples writings and for Dreamers site!!!!! Nicely written Justus. |

Justus Isaiah Richardson (64.12.116.201) -- Monday, September 17 2007, 12:32 pm If you don't like it, don't read it. Seems to me, all y'all are hypocrites. You come here complaining to me for writing this, and then tell me I got no right to complain. All I’m doing is writing about something I don’t like. I just did it with more rhythm than most of you. You don’t like my little rap, so you write about it. But instead of just complaining, you tell me I got no business complaining about something you approve of. Bunch of hypocrites ya ask me. Late. J |
Geezer (71.217.53.29) -- Wednesday, September 19 2007, 05:03 am Wow! Your poem has really stirred things up. Makes me hungry for stir-fries. When a poem can get this much attention, tells me this is a great poem. Thanks for the read and all the comments folks. I'm from the 60's and the music back then was awesome, I can't understand todays rap? Only thing I can figure is, they can't sing, so they talk sing???? Guess I'm too old. |

anonymous (74.65.121.49) -- Wednesday, June 4 2008, 08:20 am what in hell has happened here? going from a terrific poem to a near confrontational riot on the website... man, do people ever wear their anger and nerves near the surface of their skin, or what? rap is just another way of saying something, which most of the comments are in agreement with, but to lose control of your ability to post rational thoughts is not beneficial - all you do is make yourself look foolish. in my class you would get good grades for your work, likely, but if you got into a mind-rolling argument off on a tangent, you would get a d or an f - no way would i even bother to listen to you again. be cool, fool - you don't impress anyone except yourself otherwise. |
Justus Isaiah Richardson (207.200.112.103) -- Wednesday, June 4 2008, 10:45 pm Right now, your generation is dishing out the disrespect, and profanity filled opinions. In the blink of an eye, you're gonna be on the receiving end, still deluding yourself into believing that your opinion matters, and someone is listening. The only people listening to your generation, is your generation, and the only generation listening to the older generation, is the older generation. Self-righteousness is what creates the gap between generations. Self-serving opinions, like the kind shared, so ineloquently, through rap music, only serve to widen the gap. But then I’m old, and experienced. How could I possibly have anything to say to you? My opinion doesn’t matter, any more than yours will in 30 years. Good luck in dealing when that fact is realized. |
anonymous (74.65.121.49) -- Thursday, June 5 2008, 01:00 pm sadly, justus, not one of them is listening, or even understanding that you are trying to tell them something. bottom line - they don't care, and they are of the opinion that it doesn't matter - a friend one of my kids is of the same generation as these so-called wanna-be gangsta rappers complete with enough metal piercings to set off airport alarms at 30 feet, and he wonders why, with the way he struts and dresses,- if you can call wearing pants 4 sizes too big for you, and showing off the fact that you are wearing underwear being dressed,- and talks, he can't get a better job than mcdonald's or changing tires at a garage... they'll be in their late 20s before it starts to hit them. |
Meridian Zuriel (151.199.132.226) -- Friday, June 6 2008, 06:20 pm What I think Justus is saying, is that rap music can be clean without the use of sexually explicit lyrics. A person doesn't have to be a listener of rap/hip-hop, they know they can easily change the radio dial. Justus couldn't escape vulgar lyrics if he tried because someone could blast their CD while he's at a stoplight. It's everywhere. People who dislike it, have no choice but to tolerate it. But, everyone is entitled to their opinion, without insulting or threatening someone in the process. He's talking about lyrics that include violence and expresses harm to an individual. And I'm a young person, really young. He may or may not like rap music, but he really isn't disrespecting anyone in his poem. Everyone has opinions and are entitled to them. Music has changed. Music is supposed to inspire or include morals to stories. Music is supposed to be for young, middle-aged, and old people. A lot of artists have gone through hard times and write about it in their songs. Justus isn't judging nor is he trying to force anyone to conform to his beliefs. And I'm not trying to be a "spokesperson", but it's interesting how this turned into a free-for-all. |
Classic_Boss_Lady (69.8.10.142) -- Monday, September 1 2008, 05:33 am Watz Good Justus, I luv dat poem "Gangsta Crap". Dat poem go hard. Ignore wat dem other ppl say cuz dey juzt hatin'. Peace, Love,& Cherry Lip Gloss Classic_Boss_Lady |

NEVA WHATEVA (75.45.5.87) -- Sunday, January 4 2009, 04:01 am it HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE!! Anyone can be a Gangsta wheter ur black white ANYTHING! so get over it and stop worring about other ppls problems and focus on ur own! u rap to express ur feelings and then when another person (no matter what race) trys to express themselfs u critisize them?! Justus is right,u are all hipocrits if u think the poem has to do with race!So GET OFF HIS BACK!if u think his poem/rap was no good then make ur own and proove to him that he is wrong!but until u can do that,SHUT UP!Cuz u dont have a reason to be critisizing him until u can PROOVE IT!Im wiht u justus! for the most part anyway!BYE BYEZ!BY THE WAY. im NOT a Gangster!im WHITE and i still RAP!u ave a problem with that?!than FIX it yourself cuz its not my problem! |
Luke Mudge (69.207.207.8) -- Saturday, January 10 2009, 06:11 pm "Whisper words of wisdom, let it be", it's a poetry site!, if Justus wants to write about dancing dogs in a circus wearing pajamas that have bananas on them, then Justus can write JUST THAT!, I dont agree with his original poem above, though, if he wants to Express his Opinion, Nobody can tell him that His opinion is wrong, cause it's HIS Opinion, so Justus keep writing, expressing ones opinion is what makes the great writers of the world. |
