A Young Boy Died Today

A young boy died today,
This boy was only three,
So young and so sick,
And now this boy is free,
Too young to hold a memory,
Too young to understand,
Why he had died today,
Lying in his momma’s hand,
She prayed a hedge of protection,
As she stared into his eyes,
Watching him each waking hour,
Until her son would die,
The time was drawing near,
She held him oh so tight,
Hoping for a miracle,
Praying God would do what’s right,
She felt his heart beat slower,
Shorter and shorter it got,
She prayed for it to beat faster,
But surely, it did not,
As he took his very last breathe,
She prayed that he would linger,
He gave her a weak smile,
And squeezed her pinky finger,
Little by little his hand fell,
His smile became no more,
The presence of this little boy,
Slowly flew out the door,
She screamed with such sadness,
Hugged her lifeless child,
Cried through the night,
Remembering the time he smiled,
He knew that he was leaving,
And that he wouldn’t come again,
So he smiled for his momma,
As his life came to an end,
A young boy died today,
This boy was only three,
So young and so sick,
And now this boy is free.

when he smiled

Excellent work KitKatrina. You really took me in on this story.
It reminds me when my friend lost her child. Like in the words you wrote, she screamed with such sadness.

thank you

Yeah, when I wrote this poem I had a lot of feeling for it. I put in all the emotions as vividly as I could. It IS harder to grasp when a young child dies. I pray for all of you who have lost a loved one, young or old. It's hard to move on, but they'll always be with you. Thank you for the comments you guys! God Bless! ~Katrina

AWESOME

A good friend of mine lost her child when he was eighgt years old. He tied in her arms while he was in a coma. This poem describes her situation perfectly. You have a great talent. I look forward to reading more of your works.
