Homeless Santa
6 November, 2003
Author: KitKatrina
There’s a man I always see,
He’s always strolling round the town,
He never waves back at me,
For his head is always down,
He never speaks to anyone,
For they never speak to this man,
But he has a spirit like the sun,
For he is such a cheerful man,
I’m the only one, who knows,
The secret this man keeps,
I’ll tell you how the story goes,
If you promise not to peep,
This man whose name is Fred,
He’s homeless now you see,
He thinks his life is dead,
For I just think he’s free,
He always asks for donations,
But never buys a thing,
I always see him at the train station,
And a song he will sing,
I asked where the donations go,
He told me that I would soon see,
He said that no one even knows,
And that the first to know would be me,
I smiled at him and asked when I’d know,
He just smiled real wide,
Please tell me I have to know,
He said that it’s a surprise,
On Christmas Eve I heard a knock at the door,
Only to find him right there,
He asked if I wanted to know more,
Because he said that he’d share,
We went to the Children’s Shelter,
When he walked in the children cheered,
They circled all around him,
Screaming that Santa was now here,
He grabbed his bag and handed out gifts,
Then looked back at me with a wink,
He said, “This is where the money goes.”
And this really made me think,
I looked at him in a deep stare,
And smiled with such grace,
I can’t believe how much you care,
We need more people like you in this place!
