Built By My Blood

"OOOh Say Can You See," the blood I have shed, the beatings I's taken, from my feet to my head

"By The Dawns Early Light," from sun up to sun down, in the hottest July days, with my blood and sweat moistenin' the ground

"What So Proudly We Held," was hopes of bein' free, but that hope would diminish slowly, with every beating Masa given' me

"By The Twilights Last Gleaming," but the gleam in my eyes, was when Masa seperated me from my chillins', and refused to hear my cries

"Whose Broad Stripes And Bright Stars," I looked towards when I ran, but like an animal I was trapped, and captured once again

"Through The Periless Fights," to live from white superiority, but constantly be reminded, that I am a Nigger of inferiority

"O'er Ramperts We Watched," like I seen Masa rape my wife, oh yeah Masa say it was sinful for us to marry, so I guess that made it right

"Were So Galently Streaming," like the bloody lashes down my back, when Masa's nasty foremen felt the need, to hear his whip crack

"And The Rockets Red Glare," I glare at Masa with disguse. I hate Masa with a passion, in Ol' Massa i'll never trust

"The Bombs Bursting In Air," like the morals that Masa posess, as crooked as my back from a long days work, or as crooked as the whip marks across my chest

"Gave Proof Through The Night," that life is never fair, because my skin is dark, and I have wool for hair

"That Our Flag Was Still There," to tie a noose around my neck, when Masa me an example, to keep his Niggers in check

"Oh Say Does That Star-Spangled" represent the blood I shed and the tears I have cry, it represents my struggle, when I looked America in the eye

"Banner Yet Wave," raised to keep me down, still my hands clenched in praying position, while my ankles are shackled to the ground

"O'er The Land Of The Free," the land built by my hands, the same land with ruthless monsters, who said I was less than a man

"And The Home Of The Brave," But too scared to admit the truth, that because of the blood of a slave, America grew from its youth

------- Author's Notes -------

"The poem is not intended to cause any type of uproar of any sort; it's just that I felt that the slaves never really got the credit they deserve for the blood they shed to help our great country." Acknowledgment is also given to Francis Scott Key for the words to the "Star Spangled Banner."
