Repeating
13 September, 2002
Author: Barbara Goodhew
Children learning to speak, get frustrated and feel defeated.
Trying to make people understand.
Then they are asked to repeat.
I thought temper tantrums were uncalled for.
Now when people ask me to repeat or say huh.
I feel like throwing myself on the floor.
Be aware of what the conversation is about.
Take the time to listen.
Then you won't have a child that's angry or pouts.

Capricorn (62.30.192.1) -- Tuesday, November 19 2002, 04:17 pm Yes, we all need to be patient when someone has a problem, even if it is a small child. My eldest son is Autistic and cannot speak. He copes well & is a happy person, but when he was younger & felt frustrated he would have such tantrums!!In his teens he was terrible! People were quick to criticise, not understanding the situation. He's 26yrs now & only occasionally has a tantrum, usually if he feels ill. People should take time with all children to help understand them. Good to read one of your poems again Barb. I got onto the forum last night & left you a message under Greetings. Speak to you soon!! |
barb (206.191.91.89) -- Thursday, November 21 2002, 01:48 am Hi cap thankyou for understanding what your son and others are going through I know it's hard on the caregivers, just think how hard it is on us. You know what you need and want but getting others to understand is frustrating and tiring. Left a message in the forum I think I'm still not sure what to do. |
