Awakening

Author: Manis
Dawn!
it's here.
I can hear the birds.
loud and cheerful.
rays of sunshine.
soft and bright.
maybe...
maybe today's the day!
my heart skips a beat
then it starts,
louder than ever.
maybe...
maybe today's the day!
I'm brimming with ecstacy.
I've waited.
waited for ever, for this day.
I hear voices.
familiar?
Kids in the yard.
oh yes! familiar voices.
at last! THE day's here.
I rush out.
Rush out to the yard.
Friends?
Where are my friends?
I call out their names.
silence...
I yell out their names.
silence...
A film covers my eyes.
silence...
I hear a groan.
from my not so little heart.
My heart skips a beat.
in memory of a ...
lost childhood.
