Soul Mates

I met her on a trip to New York,
She sat next to me on the plane.
She brightened my day, and I knew right away,
That I had to see her again.

We had so many things in common,
We even shared the same birthday.
And in the sky above, two people fell in love,
While the moment swept us away.

The two of us were so much alike,
I wanted her to share my life.
We decided to wed, to share the road ahead,
And soon we were husband and wife.

We adopted a boy and a girl,
For we’d been adopted as well.
A happy family, is what we hoped to be,
Forever under true love’s spell.

Our children grew up and moved away,
My wife began searching her past.
Said she needed to know why her mom let her go.
And so a few more years soon passed.

One fateful day a letter arrived,
My wife became pale as she read.
I needed to know what affected her so,
So I asked what the letter said.

She handed the telegram to me,
As I read, my knees became weak.
I could hardly stand; the letter fell from my hand,
I sat down, unable to speak.

The letter said my wife had a twin,
It gave the name of her mother.
What had been concealed, the letter had revealed,
When we read the name of her brother.

After the shock came a flood of tears,
I reached over and I kissed her.
I pondered my life, as I comforted my wife,
Who I learned was also my sister.
