Johnny Came Marching Home

(Battlefield Earth Part III)

There were no weeping eyes the day John died.
Not a soul was mourning and no one cried.

A valiant soldier in a holy war,
Seeking to honor the oath that he swore.

For eighty eight years he weathered the storm,
His duty, always ready to perform.

An unsung hero, forgotten by most,
Save for the Lord and His Heavenly Host.

Angels sing as they witness his rebirth,
Pulled from the darkness of battlefield Earth.

To live once more within God’s loving light,
Mending the wounds he’d received in his fight.

Trumpets sound to announce his salvation,
Heaven erupts in grand celebration.

His story is written in life’s sacred tome.
This is the day Johnny came marching home.

This was great!

I love how the three poems took place at the beginning, the middle and the end of his life. I also like how the first and last were in the third person but the second was in the first person. Really cool.

Nice trilogy!

The first one is birth, the second is a near death that explains life and the third is death and eternal life. Very good.
