Cat On The Fence
4 November, 2003
Author: Mark Spencer
It ain’t easy to take it, I can’t hardly make it,
When I’m facing the world all alone.
It’s hard to watch others, holding hands with their lovers,
When I spend every day on my own.
Everything that I see is a reminder to me,
That I can’t get her off of my mind.
Now I’ve gotten much older, and I’m starting over,
Wish I could leave these memories behind.
But there’s a cat on the fence, singing all night long,
And I don’t understand his song.
Though I know, he’s lonely tonight,
Just like me, on this Saturday night.
I can’t fight the feeling, that sends my mind reeling,
When the nights seem to last so damn long.
It’s the same old emotion that gives me the notion,
To quit trying to pretend that I’m strong.
But no matter what I do, I seem to muddle through,
Though life’s lessons can be so unkind.
Now I’ve gotten much older, and I’m starting over,
Wish I could leave these memories behind.
But there’s a cat on the fence, singing all night long,
And I don’t understand his song.
Though I know, he’s lonely tonight,
Just like me, on this Saturday night
