An Open Mind
19 October, 2003
Author: Mark Spencer
An open mind is thoughtful,
It observes but does not judge.
It can dance through fields of gold,
Or swim ‘cross rivers of sludge.
It never stands accusing,
Though, at times, it disagrees.
It’s range of understanding,
Reaches deeper than the seas.
It doesn’t draw conclusions,
If the slightest doubt remains.
It will hear a new idea,
And whatever it contains.
It doesn’t point a finger,
When it thinks someone is wrong.
It presents its evidence,
And thus, helps its point along.
If its theories don’t hold up,
It will seek to understand.
The truth is all that matters,
And its wisdom will expand.
An open mind has insight,
It will never condescend.
What a closed mind will not see,
Open minds will comprehend.
In this classroom we call life,
There are teachers everywhere.
While open minded students,
Strive to learn, and be aware.
So look into a mirror,
And reflect on what you see.
Are you only a teacher,
Or a student just like me?
