The Wizard And The Warrior
19 October, 2003
Author: Mark Spencer
Alana was a warrior
And thief extraordinaire.
She had lofty aspirations,
To be a millionaire.
Mortimer was a wizard,
The greatest of them all.
But his power had been stolen,
And he was feeling small.
His mystic staff and amulet
Were taken while he slept.
When the thief saw he was sleeping,
To his chambers he crept.
Each night he would store his powers
Within these artifacts.
Lest the magic observe his dreams
Then recreate these acts.
He had awakened once or twice
To find a nice surprise.
Other times he’d wake up looking
Into a dragon’s eyes.
And that is when he decided
The magic must be stored.
Or he might face consequences
That he could not afford.
When the king was told about it,
Mortimer was released.
He was discharged as king’s wizard,
And the life he’d known ceased.
But the wizard was determined
To recover what he’d lost.
He would weather any peril,
No matter what the cost.
He learned his staff and amulet
Were safely being stored,
In a dark and fearsome cavern,
Among a dragon’s hoard.
The wizard met the warrior
And agreed to a deal.
She could keep the dragon’s treasure,
If his items, she could steal.
Then he would defeat the dragon
With his restored power.
After which she’d be rewarded,
In diamonds she would shower.
So we find the unlikely pair,
Brought together that day,
To share in high adventure,
As they both are swept away.
Alana entered the cavern
Whilst the great dragon slept.
Retrieved the staff and amulet,
Her skills were quite adept.
But a single coin had fallen,
A sound the dragon heard.
Alana raced from the cavern,
As the fierce creature stirred.
She gave Mortimer the items,
And his power returned.
He met the dragon in battle,
Twas the great beast who burned.
Ablaze, it plummeted to Earth,
Alana held her breath.
She heard the creature’s anguished cries,
As it fell to its death.
Once the dragon had been vanquished,
They retrieved with pleasure,
The contents of the monster’s lair,
A marvelous treasure.
The wizard and the warrior
Rode off to share a throne,
With this treasure, the two would build
A kingdom of their own
