Not The First
13 October, 2003
Author: Mark Spencer
You were not the first to win my love,
I lost my heart a time or two.
You wondered, after giving so much,
If there’s any love left for you.
I hoped you’d see it in my actions,
And know what they were revealing.
The past is gone, you’re my present,
Can’t you tell what I am feeling?
I gave my heart when it was new,
And it returned to me shattered.
And soon after it had mended.
It was left broken and battered.
And every time that it was crushed,
I swore I’d never fall again.
No one could ever break my heart,
If I had never let them in.
But then you came into my life,
And you rescued me from my past.
You’re not the first love of my life,
But I want you to be my last.
