Ryan was having a lot of doubts,
He wasn't sure what to believe.
He said, "I was looking for answers.
But found only questions instead."

Gabriel had been an enigma
As long as Ryan could recall.
He would just show up in times of need.
When fear and doubt would take its toll.

"Perhaps I could answer your questions."
He said, with reassuring tone.
"I have some knowledge of such matters.
Why not ask your questions of me?"

Ryan considered the man's offer,
And thought of a question to ask.
He wanted to make it difficult,
And put an end to this nonsense.

"Who was that someone Cain referred to,
Who might find him and do him harm?
Why did God put a mark on his brow,
When he was cast out of the fold?"

Gabriel did not waste a moment.
"Seek your answer in the Bible,
But you must know just where to look.
It must be an older copy."

"For it has been changed since the first print.
God created man in his image,
Man and woman is what it will say.
This all occurred on the sixth day."

"In the old book there is no mention
Of Eden, until God rested.
It is only after this occurs,
That Adam is formed from the dust."

"You seek an answer for your question,
And that is what I will provide.
But many questions are found herein,
So many answers I will give."

"You wonder about Neanderthal,
And other fossils man has found.
You think also of the dinosaurs,
How could they have all just vanished?"

"Let us look at one mistranslation,
You are not the 'image' of God.
The original word was 'tselem',
The meaning of which is 'to shade'."

"You were created in God's shadow,
Protected by its warm embrace.
You are shaded by His love for you,
But you are the 'image' of man."

"Now God created man and woman,
The plural was obviously used.
Yet Adam was made singularly,
And Eve was created later."

"Fossil records prove without a doubt
Other hominids walked the Earth.
The first creation explains that fact,
As does the need for marking Cain."

Neanderthal was not much different,
Than Adam's Homo sapiens.
There was one way to tell them apart,
The difference was found in their brow."

"Did you think the mark was a tattoo,
A brand or some kind of a rune?
He was made to look like those he feared,
God only had to change his brow."

"As far as dinosaurs are concerned,
Are meteors that selective?
Do they kill off just one form of life?
The Bible explains this as well."

"Eve was coerced back in the Garden,
By a serpent, not just a snake.
It had to be great in countenance,
Its stature, a sight to behold."

"It convinced Eve that God was lying,
and for that deed its kind was cursed.
Their lives would be spent on their bellies.
Nevermore would they walk upright."

"And so it has gone for all reptiles,
Since the dinosaur disappeared.
Yet they've survived throughout the ages,
Why did they not also die off?"

Gabriel reached for Ryan's shoulder,
And told him, "Seek and ye shall find.
A man who accepts another's word,
Risks following one who is blind."

With that, Gabriel said his goodbyes,
And handed Ryan a Bible.
It was well preserved, yet very old.
Ryan sat and began to read.

He was given a new perspective,
And there were questions yet to ask.
The answers to which, he now could find.
His quest would no longer be blind.

Good Questions!

For one answer: The serpent is nothing but a title for Satan. Example: A title for Christ is "The Lamb of God" and you know he was human, not a lamb. The same with "the tree of the knowledge of good and evil" just another title for Satan. Example: Christ is "The Tree of Life". You're right about man and woman being created on the sixth day. Adam was formed on the eighth day- if I may call it that. So Cain- Satan's child- would have to fear the sixth day man already in the world; one woman of which he married. As for early ape-man and dinosaurs they existed in the old world age before our present time; at the time "when all the sons of God shouted for joy" (Book of Job).

The Serpent

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Genesis 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.

Sure doesn't sound like a metaphor for Satan to me. Unless old horn head has been crawling on his belly since Adam and Eve were cast out. Sounds more to me like something a little greater than the beasts of the field, while still a beast of the field itself. I can buy the dinosaur theory. Sounds better than the metaphor theory. At least the dinosaur theory has provided something to think about. While the metaphor theory has nothing to back it up, and is just one guy’s interpretation. In spite of the above Bible quotes. Also, Christ was referred to as the Lamb Of God because he was sacrificed for our sins, not because he was a sheep.

Metaphor

Try Rev. 12:9. Gen. 3:14 - metaphor for the lowest of all life forms, thus, the tares are.

Translation

A better translation for eat is partake. "Ye shall know them by their fruits" (Mat. 7:16). Here false prophets are trees and bear fruit. The fruit is what they teach.
Justus Isaiah Richardson (198.81.26.145) -- Sunday, October 5 2003, 04:09 am

You're reaching.

Metaphors. Why do people always bend the Bible to fit their own perspective? You believe what you believe, while the Bible has to conform to you. I think Mark has a good point! He explains it in a way that we can understand. Tim's explanation leaves only questions. So tell us how that asteroid managed to kill off mainly the dinosaurs and reptiles who walked upright. Can your metaphors handle that? At least I can wrap my mind around Mark's scenario. While you're at it, explain why Genesis 3 directly classifies the serpent with the beasts of the field. Or were they also a metaphor?

The Last One

Since this is a place for expression of ideas in a poetic format, I must restrict myself to this last reply. If you can find the time to study all of God's Word - with understanding - He will enlighten you. The word translated beast in the original Hebrew is...living thing. If the one who translates understands the passage as dealing with a snake, that's the way he will translate it. If one understands it deals with Satan, then he will see another different translation. Everything flesh was killed at Satan's (Lucifer) rebellion and a new age begun to test whether one will follow God or Satan. This doesn't refer to the flood of Noah's time, that's different.
Why does God, who is all just, give Eve the punishment of pain in childbirth? Why isn't Cain included in Adam's genealogy? The reason why Genesis is written the way it is, is the same as why Christ spoke in parables; so those who are not meant to see can't! So if He wishes you to see, you eventually will.
Justus Isaiah Richardson (67.127.59.113) -- Monday, November 3 2003, 02:02 pm

I see.

I see reptiles that crawl on their bellies. I see Satan as a fallen angel and not a "living thing". Why were the reptiles cursed? Why do they still exist and the dinosaurs don't? And why do wannabe Christian scholars always make out like they see and I'm the one who may eventually get it? Show me evidence for your theory, or explain it logically as Mark did. But have something more than loose metaphors to fall back on! I'm sick of that! And by the way, Mark didn't translate the passage as dealing with a snake, he was talking about dinosaurs. As for those who “understand” it deals with Satan, they do see another different translation. And if they are correct, they will produce an argument with evidence as compelling as this poem. Because the truth cannot be impeached. And what does Eve’s punishment of pain in childbirth have to do with this? As far as your question on Adam’s genealogy goes, why not ask it of Ish'mael or Esau? Whatever! I really just like to debate, and Mark still has the strongest case.
