Angels On The Battlefield
16 September, 2003
Author: Mark Spencer
He lay on the battlefield, face down in the mud.
In an ever expanding pool of blood.
As he thought of his family, he began to cry.
This was not the way he expected to die.
Through blurred vision, he saw a figure draw near.
And to his surprise, he did not feel fear.
Was this the enemy, come to make sure he's dead?
Or was it an ally, come to help him instead?
As the figure got closer, he found he could stand.
Twas an Angel approaching, holding out his hand.
He looked at his body laying there on the ground,
Then raising his eyes, he took a look all around.
There were Angels everywhere, on that battlefield.
And hindered not by the flesh, the truth was revealed.
Many fallen comrades were standing as well.
Gazing at their bodies on the field where they fell.
Angels were among them, guiding them toward a light.
Greater than the sun, he'd never seen a light so bright.
He looked back at his body, recalled the life he led.
Knew his mom would cry when she learned that he was dead.
He inquired of the Angel, "Is it over and done?"
The Angel took his hand, and said, "Its only begun."
