Joe Was A Hero

Joe was a hero to many a football fan.
When it came to running backs Joe was the man.

Yet his prowess on the field was not all he was.
There's more to one like him than simply what does.

He was a man of substance, a soul as old as time.
But he was taken from us, while still in his prime.

He shared what he was given, with anyone in need.
Helping everyone he could, he was a special breed.

Then one day he heard the call, a child's cry for aid.
Three had fallen in a pit, in the park where they played.

The pit was full of water, and the kids were going down.
But if Joe came to the rescue, he would surely drown.

He never learned how to swim, but lives were now at stake.
So in spite of the danger, it was a chance he had to take.

He jumped into the water, for that's what hero's do.
He pulled one child to safety, then dove for the other two.

But Joe never resurfaced, that day would be his last.
And since that selfless act, twenty years have passed.

So honor his memory, and try never to forget,
This man named Joe Delaney, and the fate that he met.

Joe was a hero to many a football fan.
But in the eyes of his Maker Joe was the man.

Chiefs Fan

It was a sad day for Kansas City when Joe died. He was a hell of a running back. Quite a guy too, I hear.
