They Can Stone Me
7 July, 2003
Author: Mark Spencer
I will stand within God's holy light,
He shall protect me in the coming fight.
A mighty shield in my greatest need,
No stone can harm me, nor make my body bleed.
Though His enemies gather about me,
I shall weather their attack and never flee.
They seek to tear my body limb from limb,
Yet to do that they must first vanquish Him.
They'll not quiet my voice, nor cease it's sting.
They can't silence the sound of the song I sing.
They threaten harm and isolation.
Controlling others through manipulation.
My character is flawed they have said.
Claiming I preach about a God who is dead.
Using hate to impose their control,
They seek first to own the body then the soul.
But God will see me through each attack.
And if I'm swept away, He'll bring me back.
They can bludgeon and they can stone me,
But for the grace of God, they'll never own me.
